Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

McBains Cooper and the Association of Property Lenders have joined forces to launch a triathlon style challenge, in conjunction with Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Our Team is Harry Lockwood, Montana Yeomans, Joe Siracusa & Ian Braines with Support from Rolfe Jackson

Our Challenge is a:

30 mile Pedal around the lakes, 2 mile Paddle in a 4-man bespoke canoe on Ullswater Lake and to scale the 950m Peak of Helvellyn Mountain.

Our Challenge is in aid of the Muscular Dystrophy UK charity and in particular to support Jed Thirkettle. Team JED was set up in 2010 in honour of my work colleague Michael Thirkettle’s son, who has Ulrich Congenital Muscular Dystrophy (UCMD).

In March 2008, when Jed was 8 years old he was diagnosed with UCMD, this is a degenerative muscle-wasting disease that causes progressive muscle weakness, tightening and contractures in the muscles and limbs which leads to mobility and respiratory problems.  Depending on the severity of the condition many children become wheelchair bound by early teens with debilitating mobility restrictions in early adulthood.  Jed is now 16 and his condition is progressive, though he is doing well, many are severely affected and there still remains no treatment or cure.  It limits everything he can do physically, from walking, running and any sporting activity to the daily struggle of going upstairs.  He is an amazing young man, whom despite the challenges facing him in life lets nothing get in his way; his strength of character is awesome and is known throughout his circle of friends for always having a smile on his face.
