It was my Birthday last Friday, so I thought I'd give myself a present and spend 24 hours locked in a minibus with a bunch of sweaty zombies attempting the 3 peaks Challenge. 12 of us, all parents of boys in the Old Albanians Rugby Club U12's team were aiming to conquer the 3 highest peaks in Scotland, England & Wales respectively, in under 24 hours.

I am delighted to announce we were successful!

Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Snowdon, 26 miles of ascent and descent, 490 miles on the road, 4 gallons of Lucozade Sport, a pallet of Frusli bars and a packet of dry roast peanuts all polished off in just over 23 hours!

My personal contribution was to nail the driving in 10 hours, total distance travelled for the weekend was 826 miles. Much of it in the small hours along hairy country lanes with only the sexy voice of the sat nav lady to keep me entertained and focussed. As an additional challenge, I had to stay on the wagon for the duration, then break the fast in style when we reached Betws Y Coed on Saturday afternoon. I am pleased to report this challenge was also smashed.

The walkers did incredibly well, trudging on through the pain, and we had energetic and enthusiastic base camp support throughout. A real team effort, only  to be expected from an Old Albanians enterprise.

We are raising money for the OA 948 Sports Foundation. They support sports clubs and initiatives for young people. Not just Rugby but all organisations looking to involve our children in sports, improving fitness and using the positives in sport and team participation to enrich their lives.

So if you love your rugby, want to get kids off their bums and running around, or just like the thought of me being uncomfortable, knackered, under pressure and gagging for a Guinness, dig deep and donate now!

Cheers

Liam

ps I can assure you no sheep were harmed in the course of this challenge, but we did worry a few.
