Story

Hi guys,

On the 20th July I will be embarking on the 3 Peaks Challenge...for those of you that don't know, the challenge will involve walking the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in just 24 hours!! That's Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon and 2,926 metres of climbing, (nearly 10,000 feet and 36km of walking).

Now I know you all get bombarded with requests for sponsorship but I really would appreciate it if you can show your support and spare some cash to help me raise money for a fantastic charity called Pilgrims Hospices.

The charity are local to me and rely heavily on support from the local community to keep doing what they do best, providing care and support to the people of east Kent to help them to cope with death, dying and bereavement.

If you have time then you can find out more about them here

https://www.pilgrimshospices.org and below... if not, please sponsor me before you go!

Let the training commence!

Thanks for reading and showing your support.

Pilgrims Hospice Canterbury, the first of three hospices in east Kent, opened in June1982 when a former school sanatorium was converted and made into a 20 bed inpatient unit and day hospice.

Since then two further purpose-built hospices have opened, one in Margate and another in Ashford. Hospice care is now available to all people in east Kent within a 30 minute drive. Pilgrims now has 56 in-patient beds across three hospices. We also provide care via day hospices, the living for today programmes and within people’s own homes through our Community Services, andare rolling out our Rapid Response Hospice at Home service.

This year Pilgrims will cost nearly £9 million to run. It costs over £500 for 24 hours care for an in-patient and £60 per day for care in our day hospices. Over 80p in every pound raised goes directly on patient care.

The community raises over 75% of our funding for us. Without their support we simply wouldn’t be able to provide the care that we do. People also give generous gifts of time as well as money. We have around 330 paid staff and over 1,500 volunteers. Pilgrims Hospices continues to respond to the needs of the local community in providing the best possible care in the most accessible way. We will continue to improve the quality of end of life care for cancer patients and also for an increasing number of patients with progressive, non-cancer illnesses and contribute to better support for their carers and families.
