Story
It was April 09 and a friend and I had gone to watch the Flora London Marathon, as we watched the determination of the runners we thought it was amazing that people achieved this for themselves and so many worthy charities so we decided there and then to run the Virgin London Marathon in 2010. As part of my training I ran the London Run to the Beat Half Marathon in September and managed to raise £1,000 for The Brain and Spine Foundation and also The Hastings Half Marathon on March 21st 2010, I hope to raise a lot more for The British Heart Foundation.
I have chosen The British Heart Foundation as my charity for this event for personal reasons and as the nation's heart charity they help millions of people currently living with heart disease and their families. They focus on three vital things:
Investing in pioneering research
They fund around 1,200 research projects investigating every aspect of heart disease - from causes and safer drugs to improving surgical techniques.
- Supporting and caring for heart patients
They fund BHF Nurses who visit heart patients with all types of heart conditions in their homes. They provide defibrillators and echocardiograph machines for hospitals, emergency services and first-aiders. - Providing vital information to help people reduce their own risk of dying prematurely from a heart or circulatory related illness
They produce publications, videos and other materials for health professionals and the public including children. They inform people about how to improve the health of their heart through public information campaigns, advertising and the media.
Please come and watch to cheer me on!
