Double Whammy - the 3 Pistes Sportive, Scotland and 2 day Manchester to London · 7 April 2016

The Christie charity provides enhanced services over and above what the NHS funds. Your support can help us to fund life-changing and potentially life-saving projects that will benefit cancer patients both now and in the future.

Story

On Sunday 29th May, with a group of intrepid cycling buddies, this girl from Cheshire, who HATES hills, will be taking on the UK's highest sportive, The 3 Pistes Cycle Challenge, in Scotland. This 102 mile 1 day sportive goes from Pitlochry to Glenshee to The Lecht to Cairngorm, with more than 2,000m of climbing (more than 6,500 ft)! :-(  Taking in 3 ski stations along the route! The Lecht features in a number of articles about the UK's toughest climbs! Really looking forward to this then! :-/

Then on the Friday 17th and Saturday 18th June, a group of Christie Hospital and University Central London Hospital (UCLH) riders will depart from the The Christie Hospital in South Manchester and cycle to UCLH in Central London - a distance of just over 200 miles. It's OK though apparently because all the climbing is over in the first morning with a 'lovely' leisurely ride through the Peak District!?!? (Did I mention I don't like hills?!?)

Any money raised from donations for both these events will go towards the new Proton Beam Therapy Centre currently under development at The Christie. Proton Beam Therapy provides an alternative to standard photon radiotherapy. Unlike conventional radiotherapy, the beam of protons stops once it "hits" the cancerous cells. This results in much less damage to surrounding tissue and has a much lower risk of long-term complications, including reduced risk of cognitive impairment and hearing loss in children.

Please help me to support this great cancer treatment development in Manchester :-) Thanks all.
