This year I have possibly (definitely if you ask my mum!) taken leave of my senses and signed up as a crew member on the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race! 

This is not going to be a pleasant cruise round the Med, but an extreme adventure - a once in a lifetime.  The Round the World race covers 40,000 miles and takes 11 months.  Challenges include sailing the Southern Ocean, navigating through the Doldrums and crossing the Pacific.

One week of training in, and I have already visited A&E!  The amount of clothes we have to wear to try to stay warm and dry is like something out of a movie.  Getting dressed takes about an hour, and I can understand why people do not change their clothes on the voyage.  I am contemplating having permanent eye-liner tattooed on for the trip - vain I know but surely I need to look good?!

I saw a poster for the race one day on my journey home on the tube, and thought "why not?"  We have to live for the moment, and embrace life.  I have an amazing opportunity, and I would not have had this without James.  The race leaves the UK on 1 September, which would have been his 37th birthday - what a way to celebrate!  I figured I ought to try and say thank you, and what better way than to raise some money for Sarcoma, and hopefully raise the profile of the charity!   

Sarcoma UK is a small charity, which relies on donations to fund research into this rare cancer, and support for patients and relatives. It means a lot to me!
