Sponsored Trek to Machu Picchu in Peru in aid of Oxfordshire Mind - 23rd April – 2nd May 2010
Some time ago I decided that 2010 was going to be the year that I do something challenging and for a good cause. The task I have set myself is a trek to Machu Picchu in Peru for the charity Oxfordshire Mind.
Oxfordshire Mind provides services for people who are experiencing mental and emotional health problems including bereavement, depression, dementia, stress and schizophrenia. My family has personal experience of the vital role that Oxfordshire Mind plays in responding to the community needs and offering support to those whose lives have been impacted by mental health problems. Raising money for Oxfordshire Mind and gaining publicity for the work they do is something that is close to my heart. I hope you will help me to help others who need their support.
The challenge is a trek starting from the Lares Valley hot springs in Peru, hiking at high altitude across beautiful rugged mountain and valley terrain, sleeping in remote campsites under mosquito nets and finishing at the Lost City of the Incas at Machu Picchu. The trek will be tough but I am lucky to be sharing the experience with one of my best friends, Jacqui, who is already putting together a strict training program that will ensure we will be as fit as possible to enjoy the sites and different cultures we expect to encounter on our adventure.
I am keen to raise as much money for Oxfordshire Mind as I can and I want you to be assured that none of the money you donate will be used to cover my costs or expenses.
Oxfordshire Mind aims to raise at least £30,000 each year to run and develop its services.
So… please be as generous as you can as the funds raised will go to a truly worthy cause.
Many thanks. Lindsey
