Story

It’s not a pretty sight. Some of you may have witnessed it and others averted your eyes. Yes, that wobbly thighed, 49 year-old woman pounding the pavements of Elstree. No make-up, tight lycra and it's usually pouring with rain. It’s not something you would forget in a hurry, but my training is all for one reason.

On Sunday 19th May 2013, I will be running 10k for 'The Cancer Treatment and Research Trust' at Charing Cross Hospital, with my eldest son Alexander, and two good friends. The incredible team of people there have made it possible for Edward to celebrate his 21st Birthday this April. I am running to mark this momentous occasion in his life. This charity helps provide funding to enable the hospital to carry out invaluable research and go on to treat and save the lives of people like Edward, who had a rare cancerous tumour.

In running this 10km I am hoping to make a difference to this wonderful hospital, and ask for your generous sponsorship. However much or little you are able to give will make a big difference and help to save lives.

I used to wake up every morning and say to myself “Edward has cancer”, because saying this aloud made it real. Now I walk into his room every morning and can give him a huge hug, knowing that in September he can return healthily to University.

Even though I am worried at the thought of him leaving, I am so grateful that Edward is here to be able to make choices about his future. He is able to carry on with his life because of the wonderful treatment he received at Charing Cross. He has a promising future ahead of him in his 21st year and has won the battle against cancer of the brain. All I have to do is run…

love Lindsey xx
