Climb Mount Kilimanjaro · 27 September 2009

It helps people locally and worldwide to experience a better quality of life.

Story

We three old geezers with a combined age of something over 200 successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest in Africa at 5895 Metres, on 3rd October 2009, reaching the top at at 15:00 hrs. It was not easy.

We did this climb purely because we wanted to and were in reasonable condition to do it. Until recently we had no thoughts of anything beyond planning the trip, maximizing our chances of success, and getting to the top.  However we are all members of Lions Club International and we realized this could be a very good opportunity to raise funds for charities supported by the Lions.

We paid all our own expenses (around £2500 each) but are seeking support to raise money for those less fortunate than ourselves. All the money pledged will be donated to organizations supported by Stour Valley Lions Club. These include Air Ambulance, Macmillan Nursing, Diabetes Awareness and SightFirst, which is Lions’ most ambitious initiative ever. Thanks to SightFirst, Lions have restored/improved sight to 7.5 million people through cataract surgeries, prevented serious vision loss for 30 million people and improved eye care services for hundreds of millions.
