BUPA Great Manchester Run 2012 · 20 May 2012 ·

CLAPA is a support organisation for all those affected by cleft lip and/or palate. One in 700 children are born with this condition. We provide information, advice, and support through our online events led by staff members and volunteers. Facebook groups, and peer and parent support services.

Story

As many of you will know, at my 20 week scan with our second baby we found out we were having a little girl.  We also found out that she was going to be born with a cleft lip and possibly a cleft palate too.  We were given a whole load of leaflets and the Cleft lip and palate association (CLAPA) website address.

That address was the best thing they could have given us, with information, support and free specialised feeding equipment.  Without them, our situation would have been so much more intimidating and even terrifying (who wants to be told that their developing baby would be born with a facial disfigurment that will affect them for the rest of their life).

My brother, Daniel and I will be running the Great Manchester 2012 10k run in order to help CLAPA provide the same support that was offered us, to other families affected by clefts.

We have never taken part in an event like this and it is daunting to say the least.  We are both (I'm sure Dan wont mind me saying this!!) overweight and unfit...but we will finish.  Please dig deep to support a cause that couldn't be any closer to my heart.
