The Bone Cancer Research Trust is the leading charity dedicated to fighting primary bone cancer. Our mission is to save lives and improve outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer through research, information, awareness and support.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Most of you will know that my dad was diagnosed with primary bone cancer in September 2005. An osteosarcoma was found around his left knee. Luckily, the cancer was found before it had spread and after intensive chemotherapy and extensive surgery to replace the top part of his tibia with a metal prosthesis, he is with us today. This September will be particularly poignant being the 5th anniversary since diagnosis.

Primary bone cancer is a very rare type of cancer and fewer than 500 people are diagnosed with it in the UK each year. Osteosarcoma is the commonest type of primary bone cancer. In the UK, nearly a third of all primary bone cancers are osteosarcomas – approximately 150 people are diagnosed each year. Although it can occur at any age, osteosarcoma is most commonly found in teenagers and young adults so dad being diagnosed at 50 years old is particularly rare.

Unfortunately, primary bone cancer is particularly aggressive. The Bone Cancer Research Trust is an important charity as it offers support to sufferers of this rare type of cancer and their families. We receive the news letters and attend annual conferences as well as follow blogs of people undergoing treatment.

Andrew and I enjoy running for fitness and fun! We have entered some organised runs but nothing as long as a half marathon so this will be a challenge! please support us by donating what you can to the BCRT.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now. Thanks for your support.
