Living with mental health problems can be life changing, but we believe that with the right support extraordinary things can happen. At Heads On we do everything we can to make life better for people who come to Sussex Partnership for help when they're having a tough time. Thank you for helping us.

Story

Pakistani children face challenges that are unimagineable in the UK - natural distasters, political instability, a broken infrastructure, extreme poverty, violence and radicalisation. In 2009 and 2010, the northern Punjab area was devastated by floods. Unknown thousands died or lost their homes and livelihoods.

Senior doctors from Sussex Partnership went to Pakistan in their own time and trained over 100 teachers so they could help thousands of children face this latest distaster. This is one of a number of philanthropic activities supported by the Sussex Partnership charity by money raised specifically for such causes.

In March 2012, Lisa funded a trip to Pakistan to support this philanthropic work. She met 12 children she has been sponsoring since 2010 so that they can continue their school studies. The children are Muslims, but attend Catholic schools because the Catholic school system offers the best chance of an excellent education in this part of Pakistan.

Mishal is 15 and wants to become a teacher. She is one of nine children. Her parents are cleaners, as are her older sisters. Without our sponsorship, she would have left school last year and be cleaning too.

Ahab is 7. His father is dying of an industrial disease. He never seems to smile. He spends all day doing sums, writing stories and reading school library books. He wants to be a doctor.

Raheel is 14. He wants to be a doctor too. His mother died when he was 8. His father works to look after him and his 3 younger siblings. Raheel is very brave even to go to school, as he has to travel one hour each way by bus through one of the most dangerous areas in Pakistan, close to the Afghan border.

Mishal, Ahab, Raheel and the other 9 little ones we are sponsoring are an inspiration to us all. They are good, clever children who want nothing more than to be able to continue their studies and change the future for themselves and their families.

Please help us help these 12 children and their families.

Thank you.

Alice and Lisa
