My son Charlie was just 3 months old when he was taken to Medway hospital with breathing difficulties, little did we know about the journey that we were about face. After having different tests and procedures the consultant dealing with Charlie referred him to the Royal Brompton. Charlie has tracheomalacia and pectus excavatum whereby, every time he takes a breathe his chest wall pushes against his heart which then puts pressure onto his windpipe. He is also struggling to gain weight and was put on a high calorie milk, and he is now very slowly starting to gain. Charlie's consultant at Medway who works on Dolphin ward has provided Charlie with such wonderful care and support, and will always see Charlie if I have any worries or concerns and he is always on the end of the phone keeping me sane!!!! I cannot express enough how amazing the treatment Charlie and our family have received from him. Not only has Charlie spent time on Dolphin ward but my daughter has too, she had an operation there just a few weeks before Charlie was born and the care she also received was amazing. Charlie is now 17 months old and still has regular appointments at Medway and Brompton hospitals, so, as a way of appreciation for all that Charlie's consultant and the staff have done for him and my family, on the 22nd june 2013 me and my friend Vikki are going to walk Mount Snowdon to raise money for Dolphin ward as i cannot say thank you enough, maybe this will help.
