In August I will be trekking up and over The Three Peaks of Yorkshire. That will be 24miles. The Challenge is usually to try to do this in 12 hours. I will be my best, but it may take a little longer as I will be dragging Ayla!
I'm raising money for VSO. VSO is a global organisation which sends skilled volunteers from around the world to lesser developed places where that expertise is needed most, with a big focus on health and education.
My friend Ayla-the-midwife is going to be one of those 'skilled volunteers' and so I wanted to do something to show my support for this organisation.
Last year, VSO volunteers have been able to help secure salaries for local Cambodian teachers by liaising with education partners and hugely improved the quality of education in many areas and volunteers in Rwanda have been playing a key part in bringing sign language to deaf people, allowing them to communicate for the first time. Numerous doctors, nurses and midwives are also sharing life-saving skills with local students and hospital staff and VSO continues to campaign for gender equality in many countries.
Plus they're sending Ayla away for two years.
But in all seriousness, Ayla is doing something I could never imagine having the courage to do and so a 15 hour walk alongside my best friend really wont be much of a hardship.
It's all for a good cause, so please give us your support, any donation is hugely appreciated!
