We help burn injured children to make scars no limit to their lives

Story

Duncan and I have been wanting to raise some money for charity for a while. And as we both have a few days off over Easter we thought we would use the opportunity to cast aside the easter eggs, and instead of scoffing our faces with chocolate - attempt to cycle 173 miles coast to coast whilst raising money for a good cause.

Our practice run and inspiration was a shorter (147 miles) coast to coast cycle we did over 4 days in 2008. It was pretty tough, especially when we were knee deep in snow in some places! We are now a bit older, fatter and less fit and so need as many donations as possible to keep us cycling through the saddle sore pain.

The Route:

See photo. Start at Whitehaven, Cumbria. Finish at Tynemouth, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Route takes us through cumbria, up to Carlisle and the Scottish border, through Kielder and

                    Northumberland before arriving in Newcastle.

see www.reivers-route.co.uk for more details.

The charity: The Children's Burns Foundation. www.cbf-uk.org

This charity has been established to help young people and their families affected by burn injuries who are treated at the Royal Manchester Childrens' Hospital. Money raised helps not only in research into burn care but also in rehabilitation including 'burns camp' - a weeks activity holiday for burns victims where they have fun but also have the opportunity to learn about how to live and cope with disfigurement and burn injuries.

Duncan is currently working on the Burns Unit at the Children's Hospital in Manchester and has been involved in the care of many children that are victims of horrific disabling and disfiguring burns. Working in the department and meeting the children who show such strength when recovering from burn injuries has inspired us both to raise money for such a good cause.

Please, everybody, dig deep and instead of buying a big easter egg this year -  get on line and support Duncan and I by donating money to this fantastic local charity,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

So please dig deep and donate now.

We've now completed the cycle, nearly 190 miles on bike computer (that'll be getting lost then!) and still recovering! Was a fantastic journey and like any adventure had a few hiccups and set backs along the way to make things interesting! Thankfully and by the kindness of a few good hearted northerners we made it to Tynemouth and the North Sea just before dusk on Easter Sunday! We have uploaded some photo's as a bit of a day by day blog if interested in the tale!

We have nearly doubled our target and are holding out for a few extra pounds - would be amazing if could reach £1000!! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated, your generosity has really made it worthwhile.

Many thanks,

Lisa and Duncan
