My Story

On Monday 25th April 2011, completely out of the blue, I was diagnosed with Myeloma which is cancer of the blood plasma cells. I had always been healthy and fit, like many working mums juggling multiple tasks of work, children, home and relishing it. As a wife and mum, with 2 young children and a busy job, this has meant a massive change to all our lives.

There is currently no cure for Myeloma but newer treatments can halt the cancer for longer and improve quality of life. The medical treatment I receive from the team at the Western General is fantastic, and with the phenomenal support of Andrew Anderson and his team at Maggie's Edinburgh we are looking to the future in a positive way.

Maggie's has provided so much support for us alreday and has become a haven for me......Walking into the centre is like walking into the warm sunshine.

I set out to raise £50k over the course of last year, however with the incredible support of so many friends, colleagues and family we have more than quadrupled that and raised just over £246k.These monies go directly into the centre at the WGH Edinburgh and so it is very easy to see the difference being made.

Whilst this journey would never have been a chosen one and continues to present many challenges, I have learnt so much, met some incredible people and been overwhelmed with the support of so many people. I am particularly grateful to the support of my girlfriends who help me live with this disease every day.
