Dear all, As some of you may know, we have been training towards running the Las Vegas 26.2 mile marathon in December. Our marathon day is fast approaching and the reality that we're actually going to be running this thing has us both terrified! On a positive note, even though our minds and bodies are apparently facing imminent torture ("You have to forget your last marathon before you try another. Your mind can't know what's coming." Frank Shorter), we'll be running with the motivation of having raised funds for a great cause. Having both lost loved ones in sudden tragedies which have impacted the lives of so many people around us, we feel that if there is any way that our doctors can advance their knowledge of premature heart disease and prevent such lives from slipping through our hands, then the Heart Research UK charity is both relevant and worthy. It was set up by a doctor in the late 60's who was "tired of telling heart patients that there was little he could do to help them". He wanted to do more. The charity not only helps those with heart defects carry on a normal, safe and healthy life, but also backs pioneering research to develop technology's to prevent premature deaths by heart disease.
