Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are rasing money for Plan.

Plan is a child-centred community development organisation with no religious and political affiliations, enabling families and communities in the poorest countries to make lasting improvements to the lives of their children. One of Plan'saims is to provide money to improve educational facilities in Kenya. We both plan to visit the communities in Kenya who will recieve our fundraising and a child that Olivia sponsors in Kenya (as part of the plan organisation)

We will be doing a sponsored cycle ride from the west coast of England in Whitehaven to the East coast of England in Sunderland, which goes over the hills in the Lake District!! It is a 150 mile bike ride over a 4 day period.

Poverty is widespread in Kenya and over half of the population lives on less than £1 a day. The KenyanGovernment’s recent introduction of free primary education for all has been a very positive measure, buthas inevitably put further pressure on an already over-stretched education system. Classrooms are often in a state of ill repair and poorly equipped, lacking basic furniture like chairs and desks. We aim to raise money to assist in the supply 148 sets of primary school furniture and equipment to schools. The desks and chairs will stop children from having to sit on hard floors, struggling to learn to read and write. And with valuable items such as blackboards, educational games and books they’ll find lessons more stimulating and interesting. We will also be rasing the money to help build six new classrooms in schools in the Bondo region of Kenya giving students access to a safe and clean learning environment.

Plan enables poor communities to take action together to achieve children’s rights to an education, decent healthcare, clean drinking water and more. We give long-term practical support so poor communities can improve the lives of their children and themselves. We also campaign to change the way a whole range of adults - from parents to politicians - think and act, because we know their decisions can perpetuate poverty. Children themselves can be powerful advocates for change, so we encourage them to take part in decision making, from village councils to national assemblies. And because children will be the leaders of tomorrow, we believe that strengthening their voices now will create a fairer, better world - now and in the future. This is just one of many projects within Plan’s wider education programme. With your support, this project can make a difference to the lives of many children, families and communities in Kenya.
