Liz's Page: Sheffield Poem-a-thon for Refugees andAsylum Seekers · 2 April 2016

ASSIST works with people in Sheffield who have been refused asylum in the UK. They are evicted from their Home Office accommodation and forced into destitution. We provide our clients with stable, dignified accommodation, regular financial support and a person-centred casework service.

Story

My parents came to  London  in 1920.  They had left Bialystok, now in Poland, in 1914 to get away from the war.  They moved to Moscow only to face further trouble when the revolution broke out in 1917.  Then they spent three years in Finland before finally making it to Britain.
