I am shaving my head in order to raise as much money as I possibly can for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Given the choice, most of us would want to be cared for at home or in a hospice if we were seriously ill. Marie Curie makes this possible. Their nurses give free hands - on care to people with all terminal illnesses in their own homes, and vital emotional support to their loved ones.

There are several members of my family and close family friends who have been fortunate enough to be cared for by Marie Curie Nurses at home and within their hospice in Lyndhurst Gardens. I would like to help contribute something to make sure other terminally ill people and their families are able to get the same support.

I have only mentioned to a few people that I am going to shave my head but the majority of those people have said near enough the same thing, 'that it is very brave'. All I know is that I could never imagine having the bravery my Nan 'Maud' Ethel Breach had when she was dying, how she managed to keep smiling and strong. Or the bravery of my cousin Natasha Hammerton, who died aged 25, after having planned her pink funeral and thrown a party to celebrate her life. Or the bravery of their closest family who supported them through their illness until the end.

I know that sadly my family is not unique in having lost people to Cancer, I also know I  havent named all of my other family members or close family friends who the Marie Curie nurses helped care for but I am doing this in honour of them all.

So please donate whatever you can afford. Thank you.
