Thank you for taking the time to visit our London Marathon fundraising page. WE DID IT! It was a little warmer than we had hoped but an amazing experience for us both. We are thrilled that we have exceeded our target and have more events planned for the summer, so watch this space!
We (Liz and Rach) will be running the London marathon to help raise funds for the Meningitis Research Foundation. Neither of us has ever run a marathon before. We would very much like to help the Foundation to find a vaccine to this devastating disease and it is this ambition which keeps us going through the tough training runs and inclement (heatwave and snowstorm) weather.
This is obviously a cause close to our hearts and we will be running in memory of Liz's brother - Dom - who died of meningitis.
As many of you will know, the charity not only raises awareness of meningitis and helps those who are affected, but also it funds research projects to try and find vaccines. To find out more, go to: http://www.meningitis.org/
Izzy (Rach's daughter, now nearly ten) also had suspected meningitis at ten days old and we both find strength and motivation in running with the 2 of them at the forefront of our minds. We would hope that in the future no family has to experience the devastating effects of meningitis and we are taking on this 12 month challenge to directly support the campaign to eradicate this potentially fatal illness.
Every penny you donate will go straight to the charity so they can continue their excellent work.
We both completed the Robin Hood Half Marathon on 13th September as part of our training and fundraising and we were very humbled by all the support we received. We must be mad but we still believe that doing the full marathon is a great idea!
Thank you for your support; we are very grateful
Liz and Rach xx
