Story

The Wobbleberry Challenge is for mostly middle aged, often a little overweight, part time riders, to complete an Affliated British Eventing 80 cm One Day Event before the end of the 2017 season.  This involves a dressage test, a round of Show Jumping and then a Cross Country round with solid jumps.  We are inspired by Hannah Francis a promising young eventer who sadly lost her fight with cancer last year.  Despite her weakness she continued to ride, and I was priveleged to ride in the same unaffiliated event as her - tho she is a higher class despite her condition.  You can see from the photos, she needed crutches to walk, but still managed to complete the event.  Our thinking is...if Hannah could do it then, so could we, despite our age, weaknesses and lack of experience. She was so encouraging, urging me on and saying she'd see me at the next event, sadly that was not to be.  She raised an amazing amount of money for bone cancer research and also for those with life limiting illnesses to fulfill their horsey bucket list dreams.  This is a cause even closer to my heart now as my lovely Dad, who is suffering from dementia, has also got cancer which has now gone to his bones.  You can see him having a ride on my  horse Steve last year...he loved every minute of it!

When my trainer nominated me for the Challenge, I was riding a new horse, Harry.  However things did not work out with him, so I am now back on Steve!  The Challenge organisers have said it is a dangerous sport and not everyone will be ready to do a BE 80.  We will give it our best shot, but if Steve is not up to it, then I will push us as far as we can, and if necessary do an unaffiliated 60 or 70 cm event.  But so far so good we are on track and he is jumping well at the moment.  Our combined age by the time the season starts will be 75...so I think to complete any One Day Event will be an achievement!  So please give as generously as you can!
