Story
Beautiful Rowan Macie Poole peacefully lost her brave fight with Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 1b on 23rd November 2012 at just 18 months old. SMA is a genetic disease and is the leading genetic killer of children under 2 years old, with 50% of cases resulting in death by the age of 2.
Rowan was a much-loved little girl who brought a lot of happiness to everyone who knew her and lived her short life to the full. A group of Rowan’s friends and family have decided to dedicate this year to raising as much money as possible in her memory.
Over one month from the end of May to the end of June I will be taking part in 3 fundraising events in loving memory of Rowan.
The first will be a 17 mile sponsored ‘Onesie walk’ from Denby Dale to Dovestones reservoir on what would have been Rowan’s 2nd birthday – 26th May 2013. The walk is being completed by many of Rowan's friends and family and is hoping to raise lots of money for the SMA Trust.
The second event will be a 100km moonlit bike ride through the city of London, overnight on the 8- 9 June.
The third event will take place on the 23 June; this will be a 1500m swim around Pugneys Lake.
This event had to be postponed due to bad weather! It will now take place on 1st September.
As Rowan's parents' chosen charity, all money raised via this page will be donated to The SMA Trust. Any cash donations received will be split between The SMA Trust, The Jennifer Trust for SMA, which supports and empowers families affected by SMA and raises awareness of the condition, and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, where Rowan and her family were supported and cared for during her battle with SMA.
