Why am I fundraising for Severn Hospice?
In 2007, my mother Chris was diagnosed with terminal cancer and in June of the following year Mum was admitted to Severn Hospice in Shrewsbury in order to receive the full time care she needed from the wonderful carers at the Hospice. The staff at the Hospice made the whole process somewhat more bearable for both my mother and my family and I can't praise the staff enough.
In July 2008, numerous doctors informed Mum that it was unlikely that she would survive to see my big sister Lucie walk down the aisle. The staff at the Hospice gave Mum the confidence to prove all the doctors wrong and on Lu & Mike's special day, accompanied by mum’s “guardian angel” Joan from the Hospice, she watched as they took their vows. The staff could not have been more helpful, organising transport to the wedding venue in Chester and helping mum “doll up” for the big day. Mum sadly lost her battle the following week on the day Lu & Mike returned from their honeymoon.
I will never be able to thank all the staff enough for everything they did for Mum but hope that by running the London Marathon on behalf of Severn Hospice, I can go some way towards helping by providing much needed funds.
Though I will be running for Severn Hospice and my lovely Mum, I will very much be crossing the finish line for my gorgeous best friend Kat who at just 29 year old, lost her battle with cancer on Christmas Eve 2009.
So there we go....this one's for Mum and Kat!
