The London Night Hike raises money for Maggie’s caring cancer centres. A Maggie’s Centre is a place to turn to for help with any of the problems, small or large, associated with cancer. Under one roof they provide information, benefits advice, psychological support etc and it is all completely free. It is there for anybody who feels the need for help, which includes those who love and look after someone with cancer too. With one in three people now affected by cancer the need for Maggie’s in the community has never been greater.
There are currently 10 centres but they are looking to expand. Maggie’s Centres are almost entirely run by voluntary funding. It costs £350,000 to run a Maggie’s centre for a year and £1.9 million to build a new centre.
· £25 - provides a relaxation therapist for an hour to help people affected by cancer manage stress and be able to feel relaxed in their day to day lives
· £50 – funds a six-week support course (living with cancer, caring for someone with cancer etc)
· £200 - It is essential to maintain a healthy weight and eat nutritionally beneficial meals, £200 provides healthy lunches as part of the relaxation workshops for one month
