The Beacon helps local people affected by cancer and other serious, long-term illnesses. It is hugely stressful for a family when someone they love is very ill, and we offer a wide range of services from psychology workshops to aromatherapy to help patients and their families cope with what is happening.

<p>Thanks for visiting our page.</p> <p>We have chosen to&nbsp;run the London Marathon&nbsp;for charity.&nbsp; Tim is preparing for Ironman Switzerland in July 2012 and Sue fancies the challenge, she only started running in 2010 and has only ever ran 8 miles!</p> <p>Please support us by donating to <strong>Friends of The Beacon</strong></p> <p>Our chosen charity supports local people by providing specialist care for those with cancer or chronic progressive illness.&nbsp; The team can help:</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp; *&nbsp; following diagnosis</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp; *&nbsp; during and after treatment</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;*&nbsp; at a time of relapse or recurrence</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp; *&nbsp; in later stage illness</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp; *&nbsp; with care and support in the last weeks of life</p> <p>Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving &ndash; they&rsquo;ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.&nbsp; Once you donate, they&rsquo;ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.&nbsp; So it&rsquo;s the most efficient way to donate -we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.</p> <p>So please dig deep and donate now.</p> <p>********************</p> <p>13 weeks to go and we are both now running 4 times a week.&nbsp; Doesn't sound too bad but we both take part in Triathlons so it's tough fitting in time to swim and ride as well...please sponsor us</p> <p>********************</p> <p>It's cold out but we are still&nbsp;training hard.&nbsp; Sue ran 21 miles last week, the longest run being 10 miles.&nbsp;</p> <p>********************</p> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Updated on 13/03/12</span></p> <p>Thanks for all of your donation so far - it's amazing that we have already reached our target....let's see how much we can raise!!</p> <p>Sue ran 37 miles last week and is still really enjoying training, the weather is getting warmer and the evenings lighter.&nbsp; Next week she is off on a meditation week away....the trainers will be going with her!</p> <p>Tim has started to up the bike miles (ready for IM Switzerland) which is making the running even harder.&nbsp; Fleet half marathon is in 12 days time.</p> <p>*****************</p> <p>Well we both had an amazing day.&nbsp; Tim ran in 4:18 mins and Sue in 4:40</p> <p>There were&nbsp;nine of us in the team for Friends of Beacon and we have raised over &pound;10,000 which is just amazing.&nbsp; They are really pleased so that's for your support, without you we would not have reached this end goal.</p>
