Story

In memory of my Mum, who passed away in February this year, I'm competing in the Bristol Bikefest 12 hour event on 4th June 2011 as a solo rider. That means I'll be riding my mountain bike almost continuously for 12 hours around an 8km course in Ashton Court, Bristol.

I'm raising money for Sue Ryder Care; before she passed away, Mum received care at their Leckhampton Hospice near Cheltenham. I can't praise the staff there highly enough, and I'm glad to be able to help out in a small way by raising money so that they can provide support for other families at such a difficult time.

Please help by sponsoring me for the Bikefest!

Well, I did it, although not quite how I'd imagined. I broke a small but vital component on my geared mountain bike shortly before the race, and had to use my spare bike, which is a singlespeed. As the name suggests, it's only got one gear, which is quite hard work on the uphill sections. I managed 15 laps of the course in just over 11 hours (probably around 9 hours actual riding time), which works out at approximately 75 miles.

Thanks to all of you for sponsoring me, I've been overwhelmed by the support!
