We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Thank you for visiting our online fundraising page in support of Cancer Research UK.

Why are we fundraising?
Many members of the Longhill community have been affected by cancer, including teachers, parents and both current and past students. Three of our year 11 students have decided to organise a day to raise money for a charity that means something to many people.

Mr Stride, Head Teacher:  “Fighting cancer and raising awareness of issues related to cancer, has an importance to all at Longhill and our community.  On February 8 we hope to reach each and every individual, build empathy, inform and engage.  Longhill High School is determined to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

Mr Grier, Head of King House:  “Cancer is a subject that most feel is taboo to talk about. However, it touches our community and families and this can only make us stronger”

Students organising the event:  “We are very proud to be running this special event and that we will be raising money for a very deserving cause. This charity is very close to our hearts as cancer has affected each of our families and the support and fundraising efforts are very important to us.”

Cancer Research UK is funded entirely by amazing supporters like you. By donating you can help more people survive cancer. Every pound you donate really does make a difference to Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer – so please donate now!

Events:

·         Longhill Live Lounge
Some of Longhill’s most talented singers will come together to record an album of inspirational songs to be sold on CD. Students and staff will also collaborate to feature on and produce a charity single.  This will be the title track of the album and all profits raised from sale of the album will go to Cancer Research UK.

·         Non – Uniform
Students will donate £1 to wear non-uniform. Students will wear a colour representing a form of cancer of their choice, corresponding to the ribbon colours.

·         Surprise!
There will also be a surprise event that has never been done at Longhill before. This will be an event that students and staff have never seen before and there is only a small handful of students and staff are aware of this event. We have high hopes this will have a huge impact on the profile of the day, and will encourage members of the Longhill community to donate online.

·         Also…
Students who have been directly affected by cancer will be speaking with groups of year 7 students, talking about their experiences.  Mentor groups are coming together to raise funds by selling cakes and cookies.  There will be a memory wall up in the main hall in school on the day where students and staff can share thoughts and messages on how they may have been affected by cancer. We are hoping to get guest speakers in on the day from Cancer Research UK.  The list of activities for the event is still growing, and the event is set to be our biggest fund raiser to date.

Gift Aid it! If you are a UK taxpayer, please remember to tick the Gift Aid box when donating as this will increase your donation by at least 25% at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.

Together we will beat cancer.
