Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This year I am hoping to raise enough money to pay for one student from Kadzinuni to attend secondary school for 4 years. This is a charity truly close to my heart since visiting whilst on honeymoon in 2010. Both John and myself already supported the charity but the day we spent in the village will remain with us forever. Our welcome was totally unbelievable. It is very easy to look at these people and feel sorry for them as they really have very little, life expectancy is low and child mortality is high. However this will not help the village, the Friends of Kadzinuni are commited to educating the people and helping them to help themselves.

The following are quotes from a students - starting with my favourite:

" I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the education you have offered me. I felt glee and jumped thrice without obeying the force of gravity for this opportunity" Leonard Lewa

" I have been able to change the definition of a successful person. I used to think that a successful person was the one with a lot of riches. I now know that a successful person is one who is satisfied in life, who feels useful and important to herself/himself and others" John Tunje

I would also like to add that since the scheme started at Kadzinuni, many more girls now complete their primary education. Now each year equal numbers of boys and girls achieve exam results good enough to gain one of the bursaries from the Friends of Kadzinuni. In 2005 when the charity started only 1 girl was in the top 10, now it is common place for there to be 5 or 6 in the top 10.

I certainly won't be one of the fastest runners at London but I can assure you that all the hours of training will hopefully make a big difference to the life of one young person in Kenya. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

I can assure you that however little or much you feel able to donate will mean so very much to me.

Thank you
