In the UK, a woman dies every two hours from ovarian cancer. As the leading ovarian cancer research charity, we’re working to change that. By finding new and better ways to prevent, treat and detect ovarian cancer, we will ensure a future where no woman dies of ovarian cancer.

Story

St Helen's Old Girls present a Victorian Music Hall event, at the RBH - Sunday 18th October from 15.00 until 17.30 (including interval)

As some of you will know, I am a St Helen's OG. I was in the swimming and lax teams, plus lots of singing and drama stuff with Mrs Curts.  I left in 1981!

I was diagnosed with Advanced Ovarian Cancer in July 2007. At the time my kids were 2 and 4  years old and I was working full time. I had just had a smear test and thought I was cancer free. My GP told my husband that I had 6 months to live.

Ovarian Cancer Action (OCA) is the leading UK charity raising money for Ovarian Cancer research and awareness.  Nearly 7000 women in the UK are diagnosed with OC every year and the survival rate is 40% over 5 years. 12 women every day in the UK die of Ovarian Cancer.  It makes me sad to think that I possibly won't see my kids 10th birthday.

The OCA charity is small with revenues of £1.2million per year. They have no government support.  They rely on the generosity of supporters like you.

I am hoping this Victorian Music Hall on Sunday 18th October will be fun!  Please let us know if you are going to bring a picnic and join us for lunch prior to the event.

I am very grateful to Mrs Curtis who has organised all the music and also, to all the Old Girls who have come to sing and support!

The tickets are £10 for adults, £6 for children (under 14 years) and £30 for a family ticket of 4.  Please bring the email receipt with you to the event, since it is your ticket receipt!

Thanks for you support.

Kind regards,

Loretta

PS: fyi - the symptoms for Ovarian Cancer are like IBS, namely: bloating, feeling full and abdominal pain. BUT women in their 30's or 40's don't suddenly get IBS.  I wish that I had known the symptoms.
