Hello everyone
Nancie was my neighbour and friend. She was one of the most interesting, fun and inspiring people I knew. Born just after the First World War, her adventures were stories we used to share over a stiff gin and tonic on many an evening. She travelled to parts of the world for which tickets could not then be bought in London, was a Land Girl in the Second World War, held a job in town, was part of the arty set in Hampstead, and had been married to a passionate, political writer who is himself still remembered today. This is Nancie's page. She was strong and independent, striding across the Heath in her 90's to go shopping (while lesser mortals such as I took taxis!), growing all sorts fo vegetables and fruit in her garden and always interested in people and life. I loved her spirit and I miss her.
However, a couple of years ago, an infection caught in the Cavell ward of the Whittington finally claimed her life and it was frustrating to think how much she had survived only to be claimed by something like this. If you see the wards you would understand - they really need help.
What's really funny is when we introduced Nancie to the internet - she was strictly into books, radio and tv. We typed her son's name and two entries came up which blew her away (one was his, another was someone who wrote erotic books :)))
So this is a small attempt to help the hospital, but most of all to remember Nancie in thoughts and on the web :)
Thanks
Lorna
