You may (or may not) be aware that I am taking part in Bath Half Marathon tomorrow. (Note the wording 'taking part' rather than 'running'). I am doing this on behalf of Team Jackie in memory of Jackie Orme who lost her fight against pancreatic cancer on 19th July last year. 

Pancreatic cancer is known as the silent killer. By the time it is diagnosed it is usually too late. It has the worst survival rate of any common cancer – only 3 in every 100 people diagnosed will live for 5 years. This figure has not improved in 40 years. This cancer is so aggressive, by the time it’s diagnosed, 90% of people will be told that they are terminally ill and given 6-12 months to live. Pancreatic cancer is the UK’s 5th biggest cancer killer, yet receives less than 2% overall research funding.

There are about 200 of us running to raise money for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund and we are hoping to raise £100k between us.

I have found training for this event quite tough as my body has not really been co-operating but I am determined to make it round even if I have to walk for some stretches. There are very few us who have not been touched by cancer in one way or another either directly or indirectly and funding of research is so important to prevent more deaths.

Please help me reach my target and add extra incentive to get me round.
