Hi, my name is Lou Allen. I am a Community Midwife working in Ramsgate Kent.

For more years than I can care to mention I have wanted to run the London Marathon. In the past 12 months I have got the running bug, and secured myself a place to run in April 2010. I am running for a charity called ARC- Antenatal Results and Choices.

Each year 35,000 expectant mothers are informed that there is a risk that their unborn baby may have an abnormality.

ARC supplies expectant parents with information about antenatal testing & supports them and their families when an abnormality is found in their unborn baby - through the continuation or ending of the pregnancy - providing a helpline, booklets, newsletters, and a support network. ARC also provides training and literature for health professionals so that they are able to do a difficult job better.

·            £10- pays for an information and support pack for a bereaved or expectant parent

·            £20 - pays for the website for a day – an essential aid for parents and health professionals

·            £30 - will ensure ARC 10 Handbooks go to a hospital to be available to parents on hearing bad news

·            £50 - will give training to a volunteer to provide local support to bereaved and anxious parents

·            £100 - will pay for the upkeep of the helpline for one day – often the first point of call for a distressed parent

·            £450 - will pay for the postage for the a mail out of our Newsletter to 4000 bereaved parents

·            £1000 - will pay for a full days training for midwives and doctors to provide better care for parents

 

We can easliy take for granted that our pregnancy's and that of our friends and families have been problem-free. But not everybody is that lucky, and as you can see the money will be well-used.
