As you probably know, 2009 was a very difficult year for us. In early September, Lou was diagnosed with Gestational Trophoblastic Disease which meant that, not only did we have to cope with the loss of what would have been our first child, but we have also been through months of chemo. Thankfully, despite numerous (we think 6!!) calls from Charing Cross saying that Lou needed to change treatments she managed to make it through on low risk chemo and therefore kept all of her hair and, most importantly, the ability to pick herself up again. Some of the people that we have come across on our journey have not been quite so lucky however. In this country, a high percentage of people diagnosed with this horrible disease are cured but sadly for some here, and all over the world, it takes their lives.

This is a disease that very few people have heard about and about which, compared with most other cancers, very little is known.  It is extremely cruel since it hits you with a double whammy - just when you think things can't get much worse they do!

Lou was lucky enough to be treated at Charing Cross Hospital in London (we did ask but nobody really knows why it is actually in Hammersmith!!) which is the world authority on the disease, but that does not mean that they have all the answers.

We hope that, by raising as much as we can, we can help fund more research which will one day hopefully mean that other women do not have to live with the months of uncertainty that we have endured.

No matter how big or small the donation that you are able to make is, a huge thank you. Be thinking of Gregg on 30 May - he will probably need all the help that he can get!!

Unfortunately, Lou is unable to race on 30 May due to further complications in life including a bad back. She will however make every effort to cheer Gregg on as loudly as she can.
