HARP24 · 22 June 2013

HARP is South Essex’s leading homelessness charity, supporting over 1,000 people each year with housing, advice and 1:1 help when life becomes unstable. Our role is to meet people where they are and offer support that acknowledges their situation, without judgement.

Story

Over a 4 mile loop on some trails in the Essex countryside, in a team of 4, my siblings and I will run as far as we can in 24 hours. We start at 12pm on Saturday 22nd June and finish at 12pm on Sunday 23rd.

It's a pretty simple concept - the team that runs the most miles in 24 hours wins. We won't win. In fact, number one aim is to finish with all four team members still alive, and we're not even confident of that.

Being as it's an event organised to benefit a charity, it has (somewhat belatedly) dawned on me that it might be a good idea to let people donate if they would like to. The charity is HARP, which helps homeless people in Southend. A pretty good cause really - being homeless must be pretty bloody horrible.

So give Harp a few quid. It'll help homeless people. It might also inspire us to run a bit harder at 2am, when it's dark and we can't see where we're going - or at least not cheat and cut the corners...

Louis,
(and Alice, Lizzie and Oliver too)
