Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run 10K 2018 · 20 May 2018 ·

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

Hello lovely people!

On Sunday 20th May, the 25b Lausanne girls (Emily, Emefa, Louise and Niamh) will be amongst the thousands of people running the SimplyHealth Great Manchester run.

Being novice runners before entering the race (and with struggling through the last weeks of uni), training has been a challenge. Luckily, our competitive sides have emerged and we're aiming for some decent times! We would love it If you would consider sponsoring our efforts!

We have chosen to support two very deserving charities. All donations will be split between Lasallian Developing World Projects and Dementia UK.

Lasallian Developing World Projects (LDWP) is a charity focused on enhancing education in less economically-developed countries. They achieve this by sending teams of volunteers overseas to undertake building and teaching projects in rural areas where opportunities for education are extremely limited. Since 1985, LDWP has repeatedly visited and positively impacted lives in Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, India, Tanzania and Sri Lanka. The money we raise will contribute towards building materials for simple but permanent school buildings.

Having volunteered for LDWP over three of my summers, I cannot express enough how needed and valuable such projects are to local communities. Please help to make a difference by donating anything
that you can. - Emily

Dementia UK

The Alzheimer’s Society (2015) reports that there are over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today. This figure is expected to rise to over 1 million being 2025. Despite this, the treatments available are severely limited. Many sufferers remain undiagnosed and may not have the support around them to cope with the various symptoms. This challenging condition is not something that anyone should have to face alone.

Your support means Dementia UK can provide specialist Admiral Nurses to families affected by dementia. Admiral Nurses work alongside families to give them the one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions they need to face dementia with more confidence and less fear.

I am so excited to run for 2 amazing charities. One that has such an amazing impact here in the UK and one that facilitates and encourages education all around the world including my homeland Ghana! - Emefa
