We are a team of doctors, nurses, physios and support staff from South London Health Care Trust who are going to help the work of Asha, in the Slums of Delhi in October 2011
Asha is a development charity working in public health and education in the slums of Delhi. In the recent financial down turn Asha has lost funding for local doctors who visited the slum villages. Our aim is to go to train local staff and nurses with simple protocols just like our own teams use. We will also provide specialist clinics to slum dwellers with limited access to healthcare.
Our colleagues in SLHT have also equipped us with protocols in diabetes , chest medicine and dermatology which which we can help local nursing staff to apply. Others from SLHT have helped translate them to Hindi
Louise Dolan (Rheumatologist) and Paul Knight (physio) will invite people with musculoskeletal problems to their village clinic, providing injections and exercises. We will also teach our skills to local staff. Sharan Sandhu (R&D) and her daughter Preeti will be working with teenagers
We are funding our own trips and accomodation. We are looking to raise funds for Asha to employ more villages nurses , that we will work with and train up in sustainable skills.
Please support us in this exciting project!
