I have set myself the challenge of running my first ever half marathon for the charity 'Meningitis Now'. In my youth I was a keen runner for Bedford and County Athletics, whilst I have always tried to stay fit as the years have ticked by I haven’t been brave enough to push myself to that next level and go the distance and enter an event! When the opportunity arose to join my Rightmove colleagues and run the MK half to help collectively raise £13,000 for this fantastic charity, I decided now was the time to rise to the challenge!

Tragically in December 2016 a fellow Rightmove colleague lost his son Joshua at just 7 months old as a result of Meningitis. As a mother of two young children I can’t even imagine the devastation and pain this would cause a family. 'Meningitis Now' are there to provide support to families facing the impact of meningitis. 

'Meningitis Now' also help to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms to be aware of and those at risk. Unfortunately many people still believe meningitis only affects babies and young children. As a family we know at first hand this not to be the case.

When my husband Peter was 21 (the second highest at risk group) what he thought was a headache and a hangover was actually Bacterial Meningitis. Within hours Peter rapidly deteriorated and was rushed into intensive care where he was put into an induced coma for 5 days. Luckily for Peter apart from the occasional bout of forgetfulness he made a full recovery, something that as a family we will forever be thankful for!

Any pennies that you can spare would be greatly appreciated for this worthwhile charity whose vision is a future where no one in the UK loses their life to meningitis and everyone affected get the support they need to rebuild their lives.
