St. David's Hospice Care provides free community-based hospice care to people with cancer or any other life threatening illness living in Gwent and Mid/South Powys. Your donations help us to provide the services that give patients a real choice about where they spend their final days.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Having met and spent time with Les and Gwen I was touched by their generosity and energies given to their family especially their grandchildren over the years.  (Di, Grace, Morgan, Archie & Charlie - you know who you are!!).

They were always on hand and always appeared together.  It was such a shock when Les was diagnosed and he put up a great fight right to the end spending it with his daughter and family.  Almost a year to the day later, an even bigger shock, Gwen was diagnosed and, she too, completed her time, by putting up a fight, within the family unit and home here in Monmouth.

It was at this point, I realised just how much the Nurses cared and supported the family, just as Les and Gwen had.  It was St David's Hospice at Home Nurses that helped make the transition from hospital to home easy and without them the family would've been in disarray.  They offered support during and after as palliative care and were, seemingly, ghosts within the patients home.

It is with all this in mind that I am running Cardiff half marathon this year.  I would really like 500 people to sponsor me £1.00 each for this worthy cause and help support other families like Les and Gwens were.

The £500 raised will pay for 3 Hospice at Home Nurses to stay with a patient overnight and give all the care they need in their own home surrounded by loved ones OR pays for 2 & 1/2 Clinical Nurse Specialists to visit a patient and their family twice in a week to help stabilise their symptoms OR 50 Hospice at Home Nurses to care for someone in their own home for one hour, giving all the care they so desperately need at the end of their life.

I thank you all for your help and support in raising funds for such a worthy cause.
