Today (Saturday 7th January 2011) -  with the rest of our SportsAble (WAMDSAD) swimming team -  I am taking part in a Swimathon.  As part of a team , I  will be swimming as many lengths in a 50 minute period to raise funds to help support our fantastic sports association for the disabled, based here in Maidenhead Berkshire.

Most of our team  (including me) have a physical disability so this is a challenge for us!

Our team  today includes: Jennie (me!), Karen Joyce, Chris Humphris, GIll Gibbs, Fiona Gibbs, Kirsten Gibbs, David Pucill, Sam Lightowler, Damian Ng, Nick Davis, Jane & Nicholas Peacock  - wtih hopefully another 2 to make 2 complet teams - the SportsAble Stunners!!!!

ABOUT SportsAble 

SportsAble is a voluntary, charitable organisation whose aim is to provide and promote sports and leisure opportunities and facilities to physically and sensorially disabled people in the South East

  • The club provides a gateway to top level sport for disabled people such as the Paralympics, and World Championships. WAMDSAD has been represented in every single GB Paralympic Team since it was formed in 1975.
  • SportsAble provides a home-from-home sports and social hub where members can play just for fun, to eep mobile and active and to escape from isolation.
  • Members can participate in an unlimited number of sports on a daily basis, choosing from: air weapons, athletics, archery, boccia, golf, pool, new age kurling, swimming, table tennis, ten pin bowling; Sunday Funday sessions for juniors. We also offer classes in art

    • We are proud to have over 600 members. Membership is made up of a mix of disabled and able-bodied helpers, volunteers, supporters, coaches and social members.

    • SportsAble, formerly know as WAMDSAD, built its multi-purpose clubhouse from the ground up (over 35 years ago) and is the only club of its kind - to this day - where disabled and non disabled people can play a multitude of sports together.

    · SportsAble’s clubhouse in Braywick, Maidenhead has excellent wheelchair access facilities, a loungebar area plus two sports halls and a meeting room. The venue is ideal for private hire for meetings, corporate fun-days, receptions and parties.

It is one of the top clubs of its kind in the country.
