CHALLENGE: Climb to Mount Everest Base Camp
WHEN: 29th March 2013 - 14th April 2013
WHO FOR: To raise money for the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at the BRI hospital in Bristol
WHY: (Because I'm mental) and also because I want to say thank you to the BMT ward for saving my little bro's life :)
As some people may know my brother has suffered a very serious when he was just 18.
He was eventually diagnosed with a condition called Aplastic Anaemia which is like a non-cancerous form of leukaemia which was a secondary illness triggered from the infection he caught from the water. This caused his bone marrow to fail and in turn, attack his own organs.
After a year of hospital visits and long stays Josh underwent a bone marrow transplant which sadly failed, he was then given a second bone marrow transplant which is doing well.
Josh now nearly 21, has been under the constant care of the Bristol Royal Infirmary’s Bone Marrow Transplant Unit for nearly 3 years now and they have been absolutely fantastic in helping him with countless courses of chemotherapy, radiation and anti-rejection treatments and have been a great support to my family.
I felt that I’d like to give something back to them....so me being me, didn’t want to take on a small challenge so decided on MOUNT EVEREST!! Sadly only professional mountaineers can climb to the peak so I've settled with Everest Base Camp which will take me 15 days at 17,598 ft.
I have set myself a target of £3,000 that I'd like to raise before heading off on my trek on 29th March 2013! I'd be really grateful to all who can help me hit this target to raise money for a great cause and to get me to my £3,000 total!
The official charity which supports all of Bristol's hospitals and various departments is a charity called Above & Beyond so all money will go to them and they will send this money over to the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit to help save more lives.
Thank you all in advance :)
