Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon 2009 · 11 October 2009 ·

PSDS provides a wide range of essential services and support for children and young people with Down syndrome and their families. Through our "see potential, celebrate success" philosophy we change perceptions about what a diagnosis of Down syndrome really means.

Story

I DID IT IN 1 HOUR 52 MINUTES - YEAH.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS DONATED. FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T YET, YOU STILL CAN!

I am running in the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 11 October and hope you will support me by making a donation to my chosen charity, PSDS. This local charity has really helped a couple of my friends (and continues to do so) and I know that any money you help me to raise will be put to fantastic use.

I have been following a training schedule since the end of June and am now up to running 100 minutes at a time. Most of these runs happen first thing in the morning, before Jason and the kids have even woken up.

My toes are sprouting blisters and my toe nails are beginning to blacken. I'm rubbing vaseline in all sorts of places before my long Sunday runs, and all because I want to run my first half marathon in a good time.

My aim is to do it in under 2 hours - 1 hour 59 minutues would be just brilliant.

psds is a registered charity whose principal goal is to provide support for children with Down syndrome and their families. We meet regularly as families to share our experiences and provide a network of support, friendship, advice and expertise. This benefits not only our children with Down syndrome, but also their siblings, ourselves as parents and all family members.

We also provide access to a range of professional services, such as speech and language therapy, and have an extensive library of resources for our members and their families to make use of. Our aim is for our children to have access to the opportunities available to all others and for there to be no ceiling on what any of our children might achieve. Down syndrome is part of who our children are, not what they are – because children with Down syndrome are children first.
