Bupa Great Birmingham Run 2013 · 20 October 2013 ·

It's bewildering and unsettling for anyone going into hospital but especially for children and that is why we are a fundraising hospital. We raise funds to enhance the experience of our patients by providing state of the art medical equipment and facilities and creating a child-friendly environment.

Story

HE DID IT !!

Thank you all so, so much. Over £600 raised and more to follow. Ed did a great job.  It was his first marathon and he completed in 2hrs 15, with an injured ankle that gave him pain for the last few miles. A great achievement.

The money has already gone to Birmingham Children's Hospital so will make a difference straight away. Thank you all so much  and a big cheer for Ed xxx

........................................................................................................

Come on folks please dig deep and support my wonderful 'big' brother Eddie Perkins as he takes part in the Bupa Great Birmingham Run to raise money for Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Some of you may be aware that in June last year, my youngest son Charlie, Eddie's nephew, became very poorly. He was admitted to our local hospital but then rushed to Birmingham Children's Hospital for emergency surgery to remove a huge cyst from his bowel. He was a poorly boy. Thank God, they made him better and, a year on, he is fit and well.

We went through a terrible ordeal but consider ourselves blessed that all is well now. We met some very poorly children during our time there and families in sheer anguish. You never know what is around the corner and any of our children might need the wonderful, specialist and dedicated support of the hospital in the future.

You can read our story in an article I wrote for our church magazine (page 10) to try and fundraise for the hospital last Christmas.

So, my 'big' bro is doing his bit to stay fit, take on a challenge and raise some money for Birmingham Children's Hospital in the process.

For those of you who know Ed, he turned 45 recently.  Although he hung up his football boots a few years ago (he still gets asked to play the odd game) he's keen to stay fit.  With his physique and sporting prowess, I'm confident he can turn his hand to this :-)  Ed realised that he's not run more than 2 miles since he was at school so has started training - I believe first aiders will be available!!

Come on, please give what you can to support Ed in his 13.1 miles and help us raise £250 for a very worthwhile cause.

Thank you very much,

Lucy x x x
