Story

Sorry for the ruse folks. We live in a 1 bedroom flat and just don't have room for all the lovely things I'm sure you would have bought us if I'd thrown a real baby shower. Plus, babies are happy with paper, a box and a wooden spoon for at least a year, right?

As most of you will know, I experienced a molar pregancy in September 2008. This then developed into Persistent Gestational Trophoblastic Disease, for which I required chemotherapy at Charing Cross hospital from January - March 2009. The staff at Charing Cross hospital were truly amazing and what they did for me, and for others far more unfortunate than I am, is something that I will never forget. Charing Cross hospital offers medical treatment, advice and support to women all over the country, and occasionally the world, who have suffered from a molar pregnancy and all its attendant complications. They have carried out pioneering research into this field. They also carry out more general research into how and why cancers develop, better ways of detecting and monitoring cancers, and finding and testing new treatments. Their registered charity is called The Cancer Treatment and Research Trust, and you can read all about it here: http://www.cancertreatment.org.uk/aboutctrt.htm

Baby Pollard has requested that you all make a donation to this amazing charity so that lots and lots of post-molar babies can be born across the world. And also so that they can find a cure for cancer, which would be pretty nifty. I'm sure he will be very grateful, especially when he is sitting in his cardboard box munching on a wooden spoon while all his friends are playing with designer toys.

With much love and thanks for your kindness & generosity, now and over the last 2 years,

Lucy, Sam & baby Pollard.
