Event: Virgin London Marathon 2014
In memory of Diana Tarleton
We keep funding the search for answers to ensure no life is cut short by cancer

Story

As some of you know I will be running the Virgin Money London Marathon this April.  I may be mad, insane, crazy but it is a challenge that I have wanted to do since running the Royal Parks half marathon a couple of years ago.  So 2014 is the year, I have a place and I am now training hard, come rain or shine.

I am running for AICR (Association of International Cancer Research), the only charity dedicated to the worldwide fight against cancer. The charity exists to help save lives that are currently being lost to cancer and they fund the very best cancer research projects, wherever in the world they may be.

Sadly, I lost my beloved grandmother, Diana Tarleton, to lung cancer in 2010.  I wish more could have been done to detect the disease sooner so that her treatment could have been improved and her suffering prevented. Many of us will share similar feelings and will also have been touched by this disease in one way or another.

AICR already do a fantastic job, but with your support, we will be contributing to further cutting edge research into conquering cancer, which is needed to prevent more members of families and friends suffer from, or lose loved ones to, this terrible disease.

I hope that you will find sponsoring me worthwhile:

- £10 will enable a research scientist to grow cancer cells in a test tube, which will help further their understanding of how cancer cells function;

- £50 will cover the cost of analysing a sample cancer tissue which will improve scientists’ knowledge of how cancer develops;

- £100 will pay for a computer analysis on the structure of a new cancer drug to enable scientists to move closer towards developing a potentially life-saving medication; and

- £1,000 will allow a top scientist to examining the make-up of a cancer gene – an essential part of helping the scientists understand how this disease spreads and kills – and how it can be beaten.

I attach a link to their website for further details.

Your donation, however small, will encourage me to complete the London Marathon (and I will need all the encouragement I can get!). Running the Marathon will be a huge challenge for me and every step of the race will be another step towards a future free from cancer.

Thank you.
