Story
We've done it! The weather was beautiful, the scenery was lovely and the BBQ fab! We all walked all the way except Charlie who walked just the first half mile and Kate who had a 10 minute breather in the middle!
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, we're getting closer to our target!
If you'd like to join us in walking then please register at the JDRF website :- www.jdrf.org.uk/walk Our team is called Charlie's Angels and I'm team captain.
Hiya, I'm Charlie's Mum Lucy. Charlie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the end of January this year when he was just 13 months old. After a fraught few days in PICU followed by a fortnight in RUH Bath we were allowed home to start our diabetes adventure. In the space of two weeks Charlie was diagnosed with diabetes, cut two new teeth and was pickled in chicken pox. Like his big sister Kate, he does nothing by half! Though to look at him in this picture you can see how healthy and happy he is a few months on.
Charlie is extremely lucky in that he has an insulin pump which saves him from having up to 8 injections a day. We still test his blood sugar throughout the day and sometimes the night too. As you can imagine life has changed somewhat from how things used to be. Until Christmas last year I was teaching part time but had resigned to spend more time with our children. Little did we know that I would soon have a new job in taking care of Charlie. Charlie's sister Kate likes to be involved although at three and a half she understands just the basics of Charlie's condition. This hasn't stopped her from wanting her own insulin pump though! Cue Mummy and a Blue Peter moment with a cardboard box and sellotape!
We will be walking together as a family on September 12 in Bristol to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as we truly believe that a cure will be found for Type 1 diabetes within Charlie's lifetime. Please help to continue the foundation's work by sponsoring us or donating. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to JDRF and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
