UPDATE- IF NO ONE HAS ANY OBJECTIONS, GIVEN THE VAST AMOUNT OF MONEY YOU HAVE ALL DONATED IT WOULD BE GOOD TO SPLIT IT WITH LOCHABERS MTN RESCUE WHO WERE ALSO INVOLVED AND SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED. IF ANYONE HAS ANY OBJECTIONS PLEASE LET ME KNOW ON LLEEBB76@GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
SIMILARLY WE MUST NOT FORGET THE OTHER VICTIMS OF THIS HORRIFIC INCIDENT- TOM CHESTERS, RACHEL MAJUMDAR AND UNA FINNEGAN.
No doubt you have heard about the tragedy at the weekend of four young climbers being killed in Glencoe. One of these was our great friend and my bike racing partner Chris. Chris was the very best of men, a kind, fun and enthusiastic man who made a lasting impression on all those he met.
Chris was a keen bike and triathlon racer, winning numerous races, some of which I was fortunate enough to be his team mate for. Chris was always the faster one- his dedication to being fast was unmatched.
This weekend Oli, Huw Pete and I are doing the Strathpuffer 24 hour mountain bike race as two teams. This is held in Strathpeffer, 30 minutes north of Inverness. "Bike" magazine in the US voted it in the top 10 hardest mountain bike events in the world. The race involves riding up to 200 miles over several inches of ice and snow through a night that has 17 hours of darkness. Chris meant to race this event with me four years ago but was unable to make it.
In his memory Pete and I would like to take the opportunity for the fabulous Mountain Rescue team that recovered the casualties. Please give generously, it would mean the world to his family and friends.
