I've been trained in first aid by St Johns ambulance since I decided I wanted a career in the fitness industry, They are always at every event I go to, assisting athletes at all levels with minor injuries and near fatal injuries- I know on some occasions if they weren't present we would have lost many more individuals.

I have been accident prone throughout my life being run over by a tractor, caught on fire, and in hospital for other silly reasons such as skateboarding accidents and sporting injuries! Luckily I've had reassurance from first aiders around me and people who've acted quickly otherwise things would have been a lot worse!

I have used my skills at work for people with accidents in the gym applying ice, treatment and reassurance to the injured persons, the training and advice you get from St John Ambulance gives you the confidence to be in charge the moment something occurs!

One day I came home from a long day at work and a burglar had tried entering my house my kicking a door in (glass window on door) I turned up with him laying on the decking in a pool of blood with a very deep laceration and thick glass still in wound, the wound was about a foot in length and from just above the ankle and nearly reaching the knee. 

Luckily for the burglar I knew how to respond, reassuring help was on the way and not taking the glass out but applying bandage around it and elevating the lower limb. The medical staff of the ambulance team were well impressed as were the police.
