Hello,
This July, after 12 weeks of training, myself and 5 other brave souls will be rowing from Dover to Calais across the English Channel in a 6-man boat we've named "The Oarient Express". The honourable cause for which we're doing this is the AHOY Centre in Deptford, South London. The AHOY Centre organise sailing and water-based activities for local disabled and disadvantaged people, particularly children. The centre teaches young and old alike not only to sail or row, but provides life-skills and experiences, as well as performing the role of a much-needed medium of social and community integration in a deprived area.
As I write this, we have currently raised a terrific amount of money for the trip, including four thousand pounds from a Regatta night that we held at The Parklangley Club, attended by all the Oarient Express team and our sister boat, Channel No. 7 (they will be the FIRST EVER female crew to row the channel), so thanks to everyone who was there for that. There's still a long way to go though, so dig deep and donate whatever you can, thanks.
