Our aim is to raise enough money to purchase extra equipment for the Intensive Care Unit at West Middlesex University Hospital so that the patients stay can be further enhanced.
The idea for entering the Run to the Beat half marathon came from the Critical Care Physiotherapy Team, although since this initial seed of an idea was sown, the number of participants has now grown and (at present) includes many members of the Critical Care Team including Consultants, Modern Matrons and nursing staff as well as non-clinical participants! Those running presently are:
Alex Da Costa, Elaine Danns; Paula Grahame, Majed Hijjeh, Emily Procter, Valli Ratnam, Lee Curtis, Delia Edwards, Barbara Thomas, Barbara Walczynska, Buki Uwem, Chris Manuguid,Dave Tailor, Dave Tailor, Emily Harvey, Emma Manning, Jennie Hunt, Joanne Cyster, Jo Barrett, Katie Ryan, Katie Barrett, Rosalie Barrett, Sumeer Bhamm, Vanessa CodringtonOur cause
The Intensive Care Unit offers a service to all clinical specialities within the trust where patients who have, or are at risk of, developing a critical illness / condition can receive the highest quality care delivered by specially trained staff using the most technologically advanced treatment equipment available.
The Critical Care Physiotherapists are primarily respiratory physiotherapists who specialise in improving lung function to facilitate the liberating of patients in Intensive Care from their ventilator support and rehabilitate them to a level suitable for discharge to an appropriate ward or Rehabilitation Unit.
The NHS budget provides only the basic essentials needed for the Intensive Care Unit, so we have decided to compete in the Run to the Beat Half Marathon to help us raise some extra funds.
Here is a list of some of the equipment that we would like to purchase. Your sponsorship / donations could help us to purchase some or all of this equipment:
Rehabilitation Chairs – It is of upmost importance that patients undertake normal activities as soon as possible. Often our patients are very weak and some are still on sedative medications when they are first hoisted out into a chair. Rehabilitation chairs are designed to fully support the patient and at the same time be able to recline or tip safely if / as required.
Arctic Sun Cooling System - Controls the temperature of critically ill patients by controlling the temperature of the water circulating through strategically placed Pads via a patient/temperature feedback loop.
Humidification Systems - The delivery of Optimal Humidity (37 °C, 44 mg/L) for an intubated patient is crucial for optimal patient outcome
Ultrasonic Nebulisers - Ultrasonic nebulizers convert low viscosity liquids into fine particles thus increasing the benefit to patients during inhalation therapies.
All money donated or sponsored will go towards the equipment listed above, and please remember, each and every piece of equipment will assist in the enhancement of our patient’s Intensive Care visit.
